Words & Music is an exploration of the voice as a communicator of words and sound with live electronics and vocal effects processing. The semantic meaning of words can become dissolved with vocal effects processing. New meanings are arrived to by the use of melodic repetition and other structural implications of the minimalist style. Using the voice, the computer and the room as the only musical sound sources, together with a minimalist constraint, vocal and compositional challenges are addressed. In the performance of these songs, the composer/singer creates the lead vocal and accompanying textures in real time using a loop pedal, Abelton Live and MaxMSP software. The lyrics are inspired by selected sections from the Frankenstein book by Mary Shelley.
