Breathe

The project explores the possiblity of breath control whilst training using a musical system. The central question revolved around how one might tell a person to breathe using music while they are training. An experiment was carried out on nine participants using musical feed backs to assist with breathe synchronisation. These participants all came from a sporting background either GAA or athletics. The findings show that the majority of the participants found that they could synchronise their breath to feed back given that they could listening a feedback that suited them the most. Participants agreed that the application drew more attention on their breathing and made them more aware of their breathing. The thesis answers the set questions it begins with, it also room for further development to allow the concept to become more interactive, to developed a vast library of feedback sounds, and create a more individualised system for different sports and training sessions.
