Sound Design as a Narrative Force in Film

This project involves the investigation of sound design as a narrative force in film. It details the history of sound design in the film industry as well as it’s role and place in the filmmaking process. The potential of sound design was discussed in depth and a short film was created as a way to demonstrate sound design as the narrative/story-telling tool it is. Each scene of the film is composed of various empty locations, these locations are then filled with sound – echoing what they once may have sounded like with people present. This approach mixed with certain narrative techniques makes for an interesting and eerie product in the end.
