Resonance Formations

By attaching three water filled trays to speakers, vibrational energy is translated from speaker to water. The water then takes on physical characteristics of the sound wave being produced. The focus of this work is integrating these resonance patterns into artistic practice, and investigating their suitability within an installation environment. This work fuses art and science, the aural and the visual, order and chaos. Imagine being able to 'Hear' a painting? Sensory crossover is a driving force behind this work. By using three trays capable of independent behaviour, a relationship is achieved and the separate entities can act as one, or as disparate elements. The plates perform choreography, at times passing the excitation back and forward. With the inclusion of lighting and other atmospheric techniques, I attempt to engage the observer while simultaneously making them aware of the hidden nature of sound.
