Environmental problems have occured for many years and has only grown worse over time. Thankfully, a great deal of research and project work is being done to address these problems. This research/waste management project is my little contribution to improving sustainability on UL campus. Universities, according to research, produce a lot of waste and the University of Limerick has taken steps to manage its waste thus far. These steps, however, need to be revisited as my research has shown that students of the University of limerick have several difficulties keeping up with sustainable living one of which is waste management.
ULwaste is a mobile application that was created using persuasion design principles that can assist in affecting the behavioural pattern of students towards sustainability in a possitive way. The ULwaste app aims to solve the problem of poor waste management among university of Limerick students by showing them how to correctly separate their waste. It also seeks to aid students in reducing waste generated on campus, increasing their knowledge of sustainability and the environment, assisting students in conveniently locating different waste bins near them, as well as keeping them informed about the University's ongoing and future sustainability initiatives.
