UniStories- Mobile Application for Digital Interactive Social Stories focused on Campus Inclusivity

UniStories is a mobile application designed to transform the University of Limerick campus into an inclusive and welcoming environment for all. This app is born from the collaborative efforts of professionals, educators, and diverse student populations to create a digital tool that fosters a sense of belonging.

At its core, UniStories seeks to address the unique needs and challenges faced by a variety of individuals, including the elderly, international students, and those with disabilities. The app leverages the power of digital social stories, an evidence-based tool known for its effectiveness in preparing autistic individuals for new situations. By translating this concept into the digital realm, UniStories provides a comprehensive guide for navigating the UL campus with confidence and ease.

The app consists of three primary categories of social stories: 'Trails,' 'Activities,' and 'Leisure,' each offering a curated collection of interactive social stories. These stories serve as personalized guides, offering insights into what to expect when visiting specific locations on campus. Whether it's embarking on a riverside walk, utilizing campus facilities like the Athletics track, or enjoying leisure activities at the Pavilion, UniStories equips users with valuable information.

A key innovation of the app is the incorporation of an interactive map enriched with audio level sensors. This map not only guides users to their desired locations but also identifies quiet zones across campus. This feature particularly benefits individuals with sensory sensitivities, such as those on the autism spectrum. Thus, enhancing the overall campus experience.

UniStories is more than an app, it embodies the university's dedication to inclusivity and diversity. In a world where technology has the potential to bridge gaps and effect meaningful change, UniStories stands as a beacon of innovation and progress.
