Women, Aging, Intimacy and Technology

“Celtic Cards” is an innovative research tool developed to address the gaps in the perception of aging, intimacy, and self-identity of older women. Leveraging the power of storytelling, Celtic Cards offers an immersive experience that reflects the lived realities of aging women. Through the exploration of five distinct Celtic characters, these role-playing cards generate valuable insights into the themes of aging, intimacy, and self-identity.

The creation of Celtic Cards was rooted in a collaborative and participatory design process. This original project employed co-design methodologies, bringing together diverse voices to shape a tool that truly resonates with the experiences of older women. Co-design workshops played a pivotal role in the development of these cards. These workshops were thoughtfully structured to deepen the understanding of aging, intimacy and self identity of aging women by engaging participants in discussions and activities that explored the societal perceptions as well as the lived experiences of these themes.

Each workshop was designed to capture the nuances of aging, allowing participants to contribute their perspectives and lived experiences. The insights gathered from these sessions were instrumental in crafting the final set of cards, ensuring they authentically represent the challenges and aspirations of aging women.

Celtic Cards aims to inform the design of technologies tailored for aging women, making sure these products effectively meet their needs and resonate with their lived experiences. By fostering a deeper understanding of the complexities of aging, Celtic Cards empowers women to embrace their authentic selves without fear or stigma, celebrating the richness and diversity of their life journeys.
